TESTING MEMO NO. 976
March 28, 2012

FROM: Shelley Loving-Ryder, Assistant Superintendent
Division of Student Assessment and School Improvement

SUBJECT: Clarification on Recent Staff Development Sessions
The majority of the information included in this testing memo was provided to school division superintendents by email on March 27, 2012. Additional detail, in italics, is provided for DDOTs in the following document.
A number of school divisions have contacted the student assessment staff at the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) with questions about information provided at recent workshops offered across Virginia by persons not associated with the VDOE. Questions have centered around information provided in the workshops about the number of items measuring new content on the Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II tests administered for the first time in fall 2011 and on certain test taking strategies recommended in these workshops.
